Our History

Bright history. Brilliant future.

A rich history begun nearly 100 years ago has solidified what Lumineo is today.

Early Years

Founded in 1928 as Wholesale Sign Company in Kansas City, Missouri, Bob McBride envisioned leveraging the emerging neon technology, newly introduced to the U.S., to help local businesses stand out and attract attention.

By 1939, he recognized the growing demand for neon signs in central Kansas and relocated the company to Hutchinson. Then named Luminous Neon, Inc., McBride worked to better serve the developing market.

In 1960, Mert Sellers joined the company as a salesman. He was named president in 1970 and bought the company from McBride soon after. His brother, Ron, also joined the company the same year, and the company began to grow into the seven-location commercial signage pillar it is today.

Mert’s son, Tom Sellers, joined the ranks in 1990 and was named CEO in 2016. Both Mert and Ron retired in 2023, proudly serving our customers for 63 years and 53 years, respectively.

Following their retirements, the Sellers family sold the company to Mike King in October 2023.

Mike King’s vision to expand into new, untapped markets builds on the foundation established by the previous owners. King aims to work with the hard-working, knowledgeable employees to enhance the company’s growth while maintaining trusted relationships with existing customers and vendors.
